For Little Children

London : Macmillan, 1902.

First Edition, first impression. Crown 4to (240 mm); (vi), 249 pp; 22 plates by the author; original red pictorial cloth, slightly rubbed. With the first impression binding, the white colouring on the spine and boards failed to adhere, with the result that most copies now lack portions of it; in this case the spine has lost its lettering and there is some loss to the animals depicted at the top and bottom of the front board (the paint formula was changed for the second issue). Half-title present, spotting to endpapers, no names or unsightly scrawls. A lovely copy of this scarce First Edition of one of the most loved children’s books.

Contains some Kipling’s best-loved animal stories including ‘How the Leopard Got His Spots’ and ‘How the Camel Got His Hump’.
