London, Max Parrish (1956) : First Edition in the unclipped dust-jacket. Original mid-brown cloth; 141 pages and 16 illustrations in photogravure. The narrator, Binder is asked by the Rum Doodle Committee to lead an expedition to climb Rum Doodle, the highest mountain in the world (with an elevation of 40,000 and 1/2 feet), in the remote, fictional country of Yogistan. He gathers a team of climbers to adopt the the roles generally seen in the parodied literature of the day: Burley, the Strongman; Constant, the Linguist; Jungle, the Routefinder; Prone, the Physician; Shute, the Photographer, and Wish, the Scientist. An often hilarious satire on the world of mountaineering literature inspired by Bill Tilman and his 1937 account of the Nanda Devi expedition. Bowman sent-up of the rather pompous British expedition book style fashionable in between the wars.
