At the end of the 19th century St Moritz became the birthplace of winter sports and tourism; in the following century it hosted two Winter Olympics (1928 and 1948) and, on numerous occasions, the World Bobsleigh Championships and the finals of the Skiiing World Cup. The Polo World Cup on Snow took place for the first time in 1985 on Lake St Moritz and attracts the finest polo players from around the world.
